Intervention on the breakwater of the port of Can Picafort, in the heart of Alcudia Bay, Mallorca, within the framework of the Saladina Art Fest muralism and public art festival.

We propose a quote from the Mallorcan writer Carme Riera, taken from two of her short stories that have a close relationship with the sea. We use a silver enamel, a memory of the flashes of the sea, which also reflects the light and takes on different shades throughout the day.

DESIGN

«I lend you, my love, the sea as a pledge, I put the seagulls as a witness». This quote is composed of the titles of two different story books written by Carme Riera. In these famous works, Riera employs a new and fresh style that the Mallorcan uses to create a narrative based on taboo subjects. In these stories, the sea takes on a really important role, to the point of driving the characters mad.

WHY PAINT IN SILVER?

The silver color brings to mind swirls of fish dancing in the rays of the sun, or those flashes reflected by the surface of the sea. Thoughts of the sea as a mirror of the day.

We apply the metallic enamel on a white background, so that the work disappears as the sunlight hits it. The tone of the silver changes slightly, acquiring a different shade every minute.

During the early morning hours, when the sun is behind the work, the silver turns a dark grey - almost black. The contrast is the greatest of the day.

At midday, when the light shines directly on the wall, the contrast between the letters and the background is minimised, making the words appear and disappear depending on the observer's position. The letters shine white on an orange background, the result of the reflection of the Mallorcan sunset.
