ORGULLO

MADRID, SPAIN

2023

The Alameda de Osuna was developed surrounded by highways. Perhaps that is why this neighborhood in District 21 has a particular character, which awakens a special feeling of pride in its residents.

NERVE CENTER OF THE NEIGHBORHOOD: ALAMEDA DE OSUNA

The Plaza del Navío (Cristina Arce and Rocío Oña) is a public space that is fundamental to the daily life of the neighbourhood. It houses the Teresa de Calcuta Sociocultural Centre, popularly known as “la Calabaza”, the Health Centre, the Employment Agency and the Padre Nuestro Parish. It is a meeting point for different groups with the only deficit being the use of the sports fields.

Recently, the square has been given a more symbolic layer in memory of Cristina Arce and Rocío Oña, who died in the Madrid Arena tragedy. Something that all of us who are from the Alameda feel deeply sensitive about.

That is why we designed the project in this specific location, proposing a collaborative process that integrates the courts in such an important place for the community.

DESIGN

The piece is made up of the superimposition of the letters of the word pride.

The word is the starting point for creating a more complex and abstract chromatic composition, the result of the interaction of the geometry of each character.
