During the months of May and June 2019, an artistic mural intervention was carried out on four blocks of buildings in the La Paz neighborhood with the help of the community's residents.

The project has focused primarily on altering the perception that residents have of their urban environment through a new iconography based on the interpretation of local identity through a collaborative design and consultation process.

“JUNTOS SOMOS BARRIO” was the text chosen by the residents to represent them. A message full of meaning that shows that interaction between different communities is possible in a contemporary urban setting.

CONTEXT

Within the housing blocks there are three spaces especially suited for a high-impact artistic action due to their visibility from the main avenues around the neighbourhood or due to their presence in the main public spaces in the neighbourhood.

+ Longitudinal block facing the First of May Avenue
+ Large longitudinal block facing the Avenue of Fame

The Peace neighborhood has 50 housing blocks of different types, heights and dimensions.

Thanks to the great success of this first intervention, it was decided to continue with the project in a second phase, with the remaining 47 blocks being suitable for a joint pictorial action. Placing the word ALMA in the heart of the neighbourhood.

Participación

It is important that the extension of the project dialogues harmoniously with the first phase. For this reason, the same language and typographic elements used in the first four buildings are used to maintain a common aesthetic.

The range of four warm shades in gradient is proposed, completed by white in some points to provide contrast.
In specific locations in the neighborhood with special visibility or relevance to the life of the neighborhood, we propose using the word to transmit messages that represent the identity of the neighborhood and that give them a boost in the face of everyday challenges.
